Flying to North Carolina

Airports closest to UNCSA Campus

  • Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI) in Greensboro, NC is the closest airport to UNCSA and provides several major carriers. The airport is 22 miles from the campus. There is regular taxi service that operates on the ground floor of the terminal. Tickets can be purchased from the kiosk that is located on the ground floor of the terminal. A one-way fare to the UNCSA campus ranges from $40 to $50.

  • Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) in Charlotte, NC is 1.5-hour drive from the UNCSA Campus. Door to Door Shuttle service is available for $99 to/from Winston-Salem at www.booktheride.com. The fee of $99 is a flat rate for up to a group of 4 passengers.

  • Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in the Triangle region is a 1.75-hour drive from the UNCSA campus.

  • Rental cars are available at all airports.

Accommodations in Winston-Salem

On-Campus

The newly-renovated Center Stage Apartments are adjacent to campus and a short walk to all event activities. Important note: The University rules restrict these apartments to adults only (over age 17) or minors under 18 only with a parent or legal guardian (not other relatives, teachers, friends, etc.). Parents/guardians staying with a minor in the apartments must also select the ‘housing only’ registration to provide personal information.

  • Private room with standard full (double) bed and full bath are $50 per person per night. Rooms can be shared, but per person fee still applies. Apartment mate requests can be accommodated.

  • Optional one-time $24 linen fee. (You may also provide your own bedding if you prefer.)

  • Practicing is allowed within reasonable hours (note: no elevators).

 

 

Apartment Features

  • Two private bedrooms with shared kitchen and living area in each apartment

  • Each apartment has major appliances, i.e. microwave, dishwasher, etc. (note: no utensils)

  • Washer and dryer in each apartment

On-campus housing must be reserved no later than June 1, 2019, no exceptions. Housing reservations can be made when you register for the 2019 Summer Institute.

 

 

Off-Campus

Discounted rates for AHS 2019 Summer Institute & National Competition guests are available at the following hotels in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Guests must make hotel reservations directly with their hotel and mention the ‘Harp Society Group’ to receive the discounted rate. Hotels are not within walking distance of the campus.

The Dining Hall

The newly renovated Dining Hall in Hanes Student Commons features a full all-you-care-to-eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a Mongolian grill, wood-fired pizza, deli bar, and salad bar. Dining Hall meals are accessible to all dietary needs, offering vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and low calorie menu options.

All meals are a la carte, and dining hall prices are:

  • Breakfast: $7.10

  • Lunch: $8.70

  • Dinner: $9.80

 

The Pickle Jar

The newly renovated Pickle Jar is located on the top level of Hanes Student Commons and has a wide variety of offerings, including fresh chopped salads, made-to-order grill items, burritos, toasted sandwiches, and more. It also offers sustainable upgrades to any meal with free range chicken or grass-fed beef.

 

P.O.D Market

Located on the first floor of Hanes Student Commons, the P.O.D. Market offers fresh grab and go sandwiches and salads, as well as coffee, smoothies, snacks, groceries, bottled beverages, convenience items, and more throughout the day.

 

Cash, check, Visa/MasterCard are accepted forms of payment for all on-campus dining options.

Willow’s Bistro

Located in downtown Winston-Salem, Willow’s is a traditional American farm-to-table bistro with a patio serving lunch and dinner with a specialized menu based on farm-fresh ingredients with local beer and wine. Reservations recommended. www.willows-bistro.com

The Tavern in Old Salem
